It is my pleasure to welcome you to the web page of Centre for Ionics Universiti Malaya (C.I.U.M). C.I.U.M is one of UM Centre of Researches (CoRs) under the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation).  This web page is designed to highlight the various functions and activities of the Centre with emphasis on our expertise, research interests, research activites and services.

Centre for Ionics Universiti Malaya was officially founded in 2007 by Prof. Dr. Abdul Kariem Mohd Arof. Since then, C.I.U.M. has emerged as one of the leading research centres that has published more than 300 ISI-cited journal papers to-date. Currently, C.I.U.M has 41 active postgraduate students enrolled under our supervision of our expert research members.

All research members in C.I.U.M are dedicated to carry out research in developing the new materials specialized on energy storage and renewable energy. To ensure that our research benefits the community and the world, we have collaborating with national and international institutions and also with industry partners whose their fields are in line with our research works such as UiTM, UPNM, USM, UKM, UPM, UMP, UIAM and USIM.

We also participating in innovation exhibitions and managed secure national and international research grants.  Our latest improvement is to collaborate with IMP SDN BHD in developing of lithium batteries for UPS under Universiti Malaya Industry - Driven Innovation Grant (IDIG). Our aim is to promote C.I.U.M to be nationally and international competitive through our research expertise.   It can be done by strengthening the present areas of research and diversifying our researches to new areas to address the development challenges in tune with the changes in development paradigms, economy and society. The intellectual ambiences of openness to ideas of perspectives have to be continued and strengthened.
